- Are the lifting pad-eyes in the right position? The drawing is not the unit. Measure it on the unit.
- Is the load evenly distributed across the slings? One short sling at 128 tons is a different problem than one short sling at 12 tons.
- Does the cargo hold actually have the clearance for the unit's height? Check the hold, not the deck plan.
- Is the lashing plan reviewed by the vessel's Chief Officer? It is the Chief Officer's ship, not the broker's.
- Does the discharge port have 200-ton (or higher) shore cranes available? "Yes" on paper is not "yes" on the day of arrival.
- Has the inland route from port to site been checked for bridge weight limits? A transformer stuck under a low bridge is a very expensive lesson.
For equipment worth several million dollars, safety is more important than speed. Always.
